Create a Schedule

It can be hard to keep up with the demands of your job while working from home. For parents, caring for their kids can make it hard to keep up with the work.


It’s important to establish a schedule for the entire family if you’re working from home. You should consider how you can accommodate the needs of your family, such as having one spouse work a later shift while the other works in the mornings. You can also try waking up an hour earlier to get more done while the house is quiet, which will allow you to focus on your tasks later on.


Find a Workspace

Although it may be tempting to work from your couch or bed, try to establish an official work area that you can use. You can also use your dining room or kitchen as a makeshift workspace.


Ideally, your work area should have a door so that you can shut out distractions and keep your focus on the task at hand. It should also have all the necessary equipment, such as a computer, printer, and headphones. You should avoid getting up multiple times to retrieve these items, as this will only decrease your productivity.


Schedule Breaks

Work can only last so long. If you want to be productive, try taking regular breaks to allow your body and mind to recharge. For instance, every hour or so, take a few minutes to stand and drink water or pet your dog.


Some days, take longer breaks to spend time with family and friends. For 20 minutes, you can spend time with the kids or your partner. You can also talk to your parents about how they’re doing.


Turn off Devices

Although you might think it’s not a big deal to check social media at work, it can be very easy to fall down the rabbit hole. For instance, if you’re working from home, you might go to check a post on social media post before realizing that it has already lost an hour of your work time.


To keep your digital distractions at bay, try to eliminate them completely. For instance, you should remove all social media platforms from your device and log out of all of your accounts. You can also disable notifications and set your phone to sleep in the bedroom when you’re working.


Working from home can be very challenging, but if you have a schedule and set clear expectations for your loved ones, it can be much easier.
